CROSSING OVER TO GREAT FRUITFULNESS

CROSSING OVER TO GREATER FRUITFULNESS
Dec. 29, 2016                                             Exodus 14.12, 15.14, 15.27, Mark 4. 35-41
The last days of the year is always a period of evaluation. It behooves every sincere child of God to pause and analyze the outgoing year so as cross over into greater fruitfulness. Every crossing over requires adequate self-examination and preparedness. Israel was in severe affliction in Egypt till they desired to cross over. God always give the condition and the strategy for crossing over yet Israel must be sure they are in total compliance with God’s direction before they would be able to cross over. Even in the time of Christ, crossing over by His disciples was in obedience to His instructions, and the same is for us today. Our own cross over is not the physical Red sea or Jordan River but from one year to another. Actually, our crossing over should not be of the lunar calendar but spiritual, mental, emotional, marital and financial. When we take stocks of our lives, we may discover that we need to cross over from failure to success, from poverty to prosperity, from weakness to strength, from being a sinner to a member of God’s kingdom, from the year of recession into a year of fruitfulness, plenty and prosperity. The Lord had commanded us to go forward and cross over in spite of the challenges and obstacles around us. He had assured us of His presence and power in the coming year and by His grace and mercy we shall receive abundant of fruitfulness in the coming year in Jesus name.

Depressions and predicaments of the current year.  Exo. 3.7, Gen 26.1. 2Kings 2.9, 1 Chron. 4.9, Mark 4.37-38
Egypt was not a land of pleasure for Israel at this time. It was a period of hardship, groaning and excruciating pain where there was no mercy for God’s people. Pharaoh set taskmasters upon them to afflict them severely without measure. Their experience is symbolic to what happened to others in bible days and also to us today. A period of scarcity, penury and poverty sometimes come as we have in our case this year. In the days of Elisha, the land was barren and the water was naught because the land was under a curse. In the days of Abraham and Isaac, it was a period of severe famine. Apart of these experiences of depression in the land, there are other various predicaments that people face individually from which they must certainly cross over. Jabez was in sorrow until he realized he must cross it over. Hannah was childless until she became desperate to change her status and cross over. However, to the disciples of Christ, it was a great storm on the sea. What is your own predicament today? Though there is an economic recession in the land, God promises us divine fruitfulness in the coming year if we can follow His precepts through faith. You shall cross over from your defeat to dominion and the Lord will calm every storm for you in Jesus name.

Divine precepts for crossing over into the new year. Exo. 14. 13-16, Exo. 12. 13, Joshua 3.5
God always provide the way out for His people. He commanded Israel through Moses to go forward. Then He instructed Moses to stretch his rod to divide the sea. But this was done because Israel had obeyed the redemptive instruction the previous day by applying the blood of the lamb upon their lintels. They were purified from their iniquities. Also at the brink of Jordan, Joshua commanded the people to set themselves (sanctify) apart for God because the Almighty is in their midst and will fight for them. We also cannot do otherwise. We must recognize that because of the presence of the Lord, we must surrender fully to Him by (i) Self-examination of our relationship and services with God this year (2 Cor. 13.5), (ii) Complete repentance from sin, yieldedness and total submission to His will (Rom 12.1-1), Expressing our total trust and confidence in God as the only Help (Ps. 37.3), (iv) Pray earnestly for the specific change you want in your life (James 5.16). Making up your mind to follow Him in righteousness to the end.

Dominion and prosperity in the coming year. Exo. 15.22-27, 2Kings 2.19-22, Luke 18.1; Lk. 18. 35-43, Zech. 3.1-4, 2 Kings 7.1, Isa. 35. 1-7, Isa. 60. 1-22, Dan.11.32,

Israel crossed over the Red sea but that land thereafter was without edible water but through Moses’ prayer, God turned the bitter water into sweet and gave them a covenant of healing and health, and brought them to Elim - the land of fruitfulness and prosperity.  God had given us many precious promises to change our status in the coming year, but we need fervent prayer and faith in God to claim them and launch in to the realms of the supernatural. We must understand and believe that with God all things are possible. God who turned poverty to prosperity at the gate of Samaria (2Kings7.1) will overturn all our predicaments in Jesus Name. In this faith, we must act positively in the dominion God had given us.  Prayer of faith changes situations and circumstances. Your level of prayer tonight will show how much change you desire from the Lord. Pray and claim His unchanging promises till you cross over into fruitfulness.

PREPARATION FOR BOUNTIFUL HARVEST

December 8, 2016
.  PREPARATION FOR BOUNTIFUL HARVEST
Deuteronomy 16:16; Exodus 34:23,24; Mark 6:30-32

The retreat is a mean of divine outpouring of God’s blessings upon His people. Over the years, God had been raining His bountiful harvest on His obedient children whenever they gather before Him in the chosen place. This is because every promise of God had its attached benefits and blessings. In the Old Testament, God told Moses about the need for Israel to come together, at designated times, in designated places for spiritual upliftment of the nation (Exodus 34:23), and in the time of Christ, He instructed His disciples to “Come ye yourselves apart … and rest …” (Mark 6:31). The Retreat is therefore a period of personal and congregational prayer, reading and searching the Word and seeking counsels of the Lord. Our preparation with full expectation of the blessings of the retreat is therefore very important so we can receive the best from the Almighty God. In deed, ity promises to be a time of great harvest in every areas of life.

1. PURPOSE OF THE RETREAT Deuteronomy 31:9-13; Nehemiah 8:1-5; Matthew 14:13-21; 15:32-38; Luke 10:38-42.

Our Retreats, over the years, have been sustained by the main purpose of seeking the Lord in a quiet and secluded place. The goal is to bring revival, renewal, repair, re[positioning and restoration to the drying and dying believer. (i) To remind the people of God’s great work in Israel and a re-enactment of the great values and blessings God bestowed over the years on the chosen nation, (Exodus 23:17; Deuteronomy 16:16). (ii) To create a standard of worship which every believer shall follow as a model of service too the Lord. (iii)to reaffirm the truth we have always learnt and believed; revisit our old consecration; renew our commitment to make heaven and influence others positively for Christ; reach forth for a touch of Jesus for healing, deliverance, salvation and power; refresh all parched hearts; and rekindle the fire of God once again where the flame is smouldering. It is a time to feast on the word of God in its most concentrated form, for the benefit of the generality of members of the church.

2. PREPARATION FOR BOUNTIFUL HARVEST Acts 1:4; Luke 24:49; Acts 1:12-14; 2:1-5,14,40,41; 1 Samuel 7:3-6; 2 Chronicles 19:3; Job 11:13-18.

Every expectation of great value requires adequate planning and preparation to ensure maximum benefit. We cannot expect to get the best from the Retreat if we do not make conscious and deliberate efforts to prepare ourselves. The Lord expects us to make appropriate preparations to participate fully and to profit maximally. Our preparation must cover all areas - spiritual, physical, material, financial and mental. Spiritual preparation tops the list. Since the Retreat is not just a picnic,or mere get-together, tribal meeting or secular gathering, the Lord expects us to prepare ourselves spiritually. We must put ourselves in a mood suitable for hearing from the Lord (1 Samuel 3:10). Our hearts must be ready to receive the undiluted Word of God (Hosea 10:12; Matthew 13:3-7, 18-22). Moreover, needed blessings and miracles will not come without faith and readiness to obey God’s Word. Besides, all hindrances to receiving from the Lord must be dealt with and taken away. Physical and material preparation demand that we secure necessary and sufficient clothing and outfits, toiletries, like toothpastes, soap, slippers, towel, etc. Nursing mothers must take sufficient diapers and napkins for their babies; feeding bottles, flasks and possibly buckets must be part of the essentials needed to take good care of their babies. Financial preparation includes taking with us money for transport to and from the Retreat location, buying Christian materials displayed within the camp and food, when necessary. Mentally, we must be alert to hear and to receive the Word of God. We must not crowd our minds and thoughts with business appointments and engagements while at the camp. Civil servants and other workers should secure permission from their places of work.

3. PROFITS OF THE RETREAT Psalm 16:11; 133:1-3; Matthew 14:13,14; 11:28-30; Ezekiel 34:26.

God has promised to pour out His abundant blessings upon us as we open our hearts unto Him. He never call people to Himself only to send them away empty. He is a loving Father, who cares about our every need. If we humble ourselves before Him and by prayer hold on to His promises, we will receive bountiful harvest from the Retreat. The following are some of the bountiful harvest we stand to receive from the forthcoming Retreat: (i) Peace of God with full salvation (Matthew 11:28; Romans 5:1). (ii) Righteousness within and righteousness without (1 Thessalonians 5:23,24). (iii) Overflowing power of the Holy Ghost baptism (Acts 1:8). (iv) Fruitfulness in body and spirit (Deuteronomy 28:4; 2 Peter 1:8). (v) Inseparable fellowship in the love of Christ (Romans 8:35-39). (vi) Testimonies of spectacular miracles (Mark 2:12). (vii) Supply of all needs (Philippians 4:19). (viii) Power for the present hour to be our best for the Lord in life and ministry (2 Peter 1:3,4).

COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS

December 1, 2016 Count your Blessings Psalm 103. 1-22, Psalm 116.12

The Lord has been very good to us in many areas as His children. His benefits are uncountable to everyone. Every thoughtful individual in all ages have always come to conclusions that God is very good to all. Though the circumstances around us, like the economic and political challenges, may indicate contrary, yet the deeds of the Lord speaks volume of His manifold tender mercies towards us. Particularly to believers, we cannot fully quantify God’s supernatural gifts to our lives. No wonder Johnson Oatman Jr. in his song for the young people wrote: “Count your blessings name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord had done”. When we think of Gods goodness upon us as individuals, families, church and as a nation, we will discover His faithfulness to us.

Counting God’s Supernatural blessings Psalm 103.1-3, Ex. 15.26, Ps. 50.15, 91.15, Ps. 35.9-10, Ps 107. 1-9, 43, 1 Chronicles 16.23-29, Ps 46. 8-9, Ps 145, 1-5, 8-10
King David was a thoughtful leader who knew that he could have achieved nothing in life without the help of the Almighty. He began to enumerate the benefits and the goodness he received from the Lord. He opened the catalogue with the blessing of pardon from sin (V.3). Sin, which  was the stumbling block against God’s blessings, was removed and all other mercies began to flow into the believer’s life such as (i) Healing from sicknesses and diseases (Ex. 15.26), (ii)Rescue from danger and destruction (Ps. 50.15, 91.15) (iii) Happiness and fulfillment in the midst of worldly worries and woes, (iv) Pleasures and satisfaction when others are in severe needs and troubles, (v) divine promises and assurance when others are in fears of hopelessness and helplessness` (Deut. 31.6,8; Ps. 3.2), (vi) Wisdom and wealth in times of famine and scarcity, (vii) Defense and deliverance in critical moments of fear and troubles (Ps. 34.4, Jonah 2.2). Believers then and now need to be thoughtful of God’s supernatural blessings – to themselves as individuals, to their families, to their churches and to their communities and nations in general. For his peace in the time of wars and commotions all around the world, and for many countless benefits, God is worthy of our praise. Praise the Lord

 Commensurate Response towards God’s blessings Ps. 116. 10-14, 16-19, Ps 63. 1-8, Exodus 15. 1-19, Ps 22.25-28
Realizing God’s great blessings to us must make us to respond positively towards Him. Particularly, those who had received God’s grace at salvation will always express their appreciation to God through their love, loyalty, lives and obedience to God. We must yield and submit our hearts and lives to Him totally as people who knew that He owes us, keeps us and sustains us. We must therefore be committed to the Almighty God in our thoughts and our actions day by day in response to all He had done for us. Here the inspired writer expressed the appropriative response we must have in our gratitude to God. God’s goodness to us must make us to (i) uphold holiness of life and character, (ii) speak of God’s goodness to everyone, (iii) pay our vows, tithes, offerings and all financial commitments to God, (iv) be engaged in the building up of the body of Christ, positively contribute to the growth of God’s kingdom, (v) evangelize others to come into God’s goodness as well, and lastly by showing reciprocal goodness to everyone. Our expressions must not just be in the mouth only. It must not be only on Sunday services; neither should it be only when we want to pray, but every time and everywhere. In our utterances, conduct and character, and in our attitude to other believers and unbelievers alike

.
Celebrations, Praises and Thanksgiving for God’s bounties Psalms 103:1-5; 107:1,2,14-15; Acts 16:25-26; Hebrews 13:15; Philippians 4:6, Joshua 6.20, I Sam 2.1-8, Ps 46.1, 8-9

Praises and Thanksgiving is the only celebration we can offer to the Almighty God. We have many reasons for our thanksgiving to Him. The following are some of the reasons for which we must praise the Lord. God’s creation and redemption, Salvation – Psalm 103:3, Healing and deliverances - Psalm 103:3, Divine provision - Psalm 103:5; 36:25, Divine protection and preservation – Psalms 91:1-16, Power to lead the Christian live - 2 Corinthians 2:14, The hope of living eternally with our Savior – John 3:16, Answers to prayer – Psalms 65:1-2, Divine guidance - Psalms 73:24. Our praises could be rendered in many ways and many manners. By Singing praises to God, we are showing Him that we submit and surrender to His majesty, and that  He should continue to rule and reign in our lives and affairs. This always move God to do more for us and to bring enlargements and supernatural miracles to us in return. All through the scriptures, we discovered that everyone who appreciates God always increase with breakthroughs and divine multiplications. Hannah praised God and paid her vows, then God added more children to her in return. Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises in the prison, God opened the prison doors through an earthquake, Israel praised God with a shout and trumpets and the thick Jericho walls fell down flat. Hezekiah and the people of Judah simply praised God with thanksgiving and they received abundance of victory and supernatural defeat of their enemies. This night shall be a night of Victory through our praises and overwhelming thanksgiving to our Awesome God who keeps us, supports us and sustains us.

SONG
When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
Refrain

Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God hath done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly,
And you will keep singing as the days go by.                         Refrain

When you look at others with their lands and gold,
Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;
Count your many blessings. Wealth can never buy
Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.                                         Refrain

So, amid the conflict whether great or small,
Do not be disheartened, God is over all;
Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

GRATITUDE: WHERE ARE THE NINE?

GRATITUDE: WHERE ARE THE NINE?  TRETS - 03NOV2016                                                  Luke 17.11-19
Our good and magnificent God always expects the heart of gratitude from His beneficiaries.. Unfortunately, there are many who receive God’s gracious blessings with ungrateful heart. Our text today reveals ten lepers cleansed from their deadly disease, yet only one amongst them (who most probably was a Samaritan) came back to thank Him with appreciation. Where are the nine? This represents the class of ungrateful people in the world today who receive God’s tremendous blessings but count it less worthy of appreciation. Christ’s response to the leper’s return indicates that God is not happy with the ungrateful lepers. In the same way, God is not pleased with those who only bring petitions to Him without commensurate adoration, appreciation and thanksgiving.

Recounting God’s manifold Benefits Luke 17.11-16, Ps 107. 1-9, 43, 1 Chron 16.23-29, Ps 46. 8-9, Ps 145, 1-5, 8-10, Ps. 103. 1-13
Lepers everywhere are forbidden from living in the midst of the people. They are always separated because of the deadly and contagious nature of their disease. Rejected and helpless as they were the Lord reached out to these ten lepers and healed them. This is symbolic of God’s love to humanity. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Yet while we were in our state of hopelessness and helplessness, God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, reached out to us in love and saved us (John 3.16). Apart from this priceless experience of salvation, He protects us, preserves us and provides for us every time and everywhere. He fights our battles for us and delivers us from the enemy. He silences our storms in life and keeps us in safety from destruction. It’s therefore important for everyone to count his blessing and name them one by one. The Psalmist enumerated his blessings from God and declared that God is worthy to be praised and His mercies endureth forever. Truly, David declared, “God is good to all”. Someone said  “He that is thoughtful will be thankful”. Are you thankful to God?
Rebuke for the thoughtlessness of ungrateful Beneficiaries Luke 17.16-18, Rom 1.21, 2 Kings 17.15, Isa. 17.10-11
After the healing of these ten lepers, only one was thoughtful enough to come back to thank the Lord. The Lord’s observation is quite relevant to us today. It is unfortunate to know that many beneficiaries of God’s goodness are not thoughtful enough to praise and appreciate His goodness to them. Even among believers, many always complain about what they don’t have and they forget what they have already. Ironically, the only thankful leper was a stranger to the commonwealth of Israel. Many Christian today demonstrate this attitude today. They only specialize in asking the Lord without commensurate appreciation of the received blessings. This attitude of ingratitude to the Lord is revealed in many ways (i) by not praising God enough for what He had done for them, (ii) by disobeying the commandments of God to us, (iii) by forsaking His ways of holiness and becoming worldly, (iv) by comparing themselves with godless people due to their riches and wealth, (v) by allowing present problems and unpleasant circumstances to shift our minds and focus away from heaven, (vi) by not sharing the testimony of God’s blessings to others through evangelism, (vii) by making utterances of unbelief toward the promises of our God, (viii) by not showing mercy to others (the wicked servant Matt. 18. 32-34), (ix) by not giving our tithe and offerings to God adequately and appropriately (e.g. the rich fool Luke 12.20), and (x) by not rendering acceptable service to Him regularly. Believers must repent of these condemnable traits so that victories can multiply in our lives.
Results of thanksgiving and appreciation of God’s Blessings Luke 17.19, Ps 50:14,23; 69:30-31; 107:22; 116:17; Ho 14:2; Eph 5:20, 2 Chron. 20. 20-22, Acts 16. 23-26, 1 Samuel 2.1-2
All through the scriptures, thanksgiving, praises and appreciation has been seen as catalysts to greater victories and blessings. In all situations, believers are enjoined to praise the Lord and to  thank Him for all He has done for us. We must realize that we are not better than those in greater problems or who had died. As the Lord had been merciful to us, we need to demonstrate thoughtful appreciation to Him through our worship and adoration, praises and thanksgiving (Heb 13.15-16), acceptable sacrifice of service (Heb 12.28), life of total submission to Him. When we do this, great doors of breakthroughs and victory shall surely open unto us. When we devote time to thank God for His blessings, more shall be given to us and when we praise Him in time of challenges, God shall give us unprecedented victory. Everyone who praised the Lord thoughtfully and deeply from their hearts received greater blessings. Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah praised Him in trouble and God delivered them, Paul and Silas praised God in prison and God opened the prison doors miraculously, Hannah praised God as appreciation for Samuel and God gave her more children. You too can praise God tonight with all your hearts and God shall release greater victories to your life in Jesus Name.

FULL AMOUR FOR COMPLETE VICTORY

FULL Amour for COMPLETE VICTORY
Text:    Ephesians 6. 10-17,                                                                                   October 27, 2016
The Christian race is full of warfare for which we need the full armour of God. This is not limited to the normal secular challenges of life but sometimes spiritual. The scriptures confirm that though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh. Meaning though we are human and in the flesh, yet our challenges and battles are not limited to the flesh, our oppositions and enemies are not mere humans, but spiritual beings of wicked forces.  Our warfare are both internal and external. We must earnestly contend against our own fleshly lust, passions and desires (internal); and we also confront wicked forces in high places (external). Wrong targets in warfare results into great loss; and wrong choice of armour bring disappointments and defeat. The major enemy of the believer is Satan, the Devil. He is not human but spiritual, yet he uses human elements to attack, oppose and war against believer. He has his agents and lieutenants in high wicked places supporting his mission against Christians in all ages and every nation.  To overcome Satan, you must make sure you are born again, and be renewed from this prevailing negative practices in the world. Sin must have been conquered, Self must have been crushed and himself must have been crucified to the Lord. It’s only then we can experience complete victory over the devil and his agents using our full armour.

COMMON WARFARE OF CHRISTIANS 2 Cor. 2.11,  2Pet. 2.11, Luke 21.34, Eph. 6.12, Esther 3.6,8-9, 1 Kings 13.18, 1 Chron 21.1, Matt 4.1-10,
The word device represents crafty plots of the enemy against an individual who gives his/her life to Christ. Note that we wrestle not against flesh and blood though he may appear in human strategy (Eph. 6.12). Their focus is not against your person, but because you had decided for the Lord. Firstly, the devil doesn’t want anyone to be saved. His intention is to keep everyone under his bondage, but the moment you repent of your sins and profess Christ as your Lord and savior, giving your life to him, the battles and challenges becomes different. He engages believers in warfare through the lust of the flesh. Therefore believers must be watchful (1 Peter. 2.11.) As we go through the scriptures, we can see some of their plots against the army of Christ as learn from their examples. This will help us prepare and stand against their wicked tricks and strategies. Note that the devil and his agents are crafty, they will not always come in the same way, but God is assuring us that whichever way they come, they will fail in Jesus name. For instance to the Jews in Shushan, he plotted extermination against Modecai and the Jews riding upon the non readiness of Modecai to reverence him (Esther 3.6,8-9). Deception was devised against the young prophet of Judah (I Kings 13.18). He plotted provocation against David for Israel’s destruction through pride and adamant census (I Chron. 21.1). To Jesus Christ he brought temptations, appealing to his hunger and glory (Matt. 4. 1-10). To Peter, he brought intimidation to deny His master and to later conclude “I go-a-fishing” (Mark 14.68-72). For Paul the Apostle, it was severe beating and excommunication and for the apostles it was persecution to scatter them (Acts 8.1). However, in view of all the crafty nature of our enemy, we must always be endued with the armour of God for it is only these that can make us unconquerable and invincible to the enemy.

OUR COMPREHENSIVE WEAPONS AND ARMOUR Eph. 6. 10-18, 2 Cor. 10.4-6
The Christian armour is called in scripture by many names. The armour of righteousnss (2 Cor. 6.7), armour of light (Rom 13.12), and the weapons of our warfare in our text. These weapons could be categorized into two. There are the defensive weapons used to defend, shield and protect ourselves from the arrows of the enemy. These are helmet of salvation, girdle of truth, breastplate of righteousness, the gospel of peace, the shield of faith and the sword of the Spirit i.e the Word of God. The second class is the offensive weapons used to attack the enemy and conquer in battle. In warfare, we are not only to protect ourselves from their attacks, we are also called to demolish all their strongholds and demonstrate ability to stand firmly in the days of adversity. These two classes of Christian armour are integrated together and complement each other. A true Christian reads, believes and obey Gods word, and he is automatically preserved by God from dangers. Yet he claims those promises and speak the Word at the devil, and the plots of the enemy literarily crumbles.  These weapons are powerful because they are spiritual. The church becomes strong when we live righteously and demonstrate power over sin, Satan and the flesh. We must practically resist the devil through our obedience to God’s word (James 4.7). We must subject our thoughts and actions to the obedience of Christ and His will, knowing that nothing is hidden from Him (Titus 2.12). We must also watch our intentions and guide our eyes from every evil appearances that may corrupt us and make us defiled hence becoming vulnerable to Satan (I Thess. 5.22). And lastly avoid every corrupt associations and friendship but separate yourself holy unto the Lord as your master. Then we would be able to declare “the prince of this word cometh and find nothing in me” (John 14.30). However, watchfulness and prayer is the key offensive weapon against the enemy. A true Christian must be ready to pray earnestly to overcome the enemy claiming the words of God and throwing them at the devil as missiles. He must also be in readiness to avenge the devil and exercise authority through the Name of Jesus, the blood of Jesus, the undefeatable power of God, and through the confidence in God’s presence.  Examples in scriptures of such missiles are Isa. 54.14-17 promise of protection from the enemy, Isa 41.11-14 preservation against the gathering of evil forces, Ps 119.165- Prayer for peace in the midst of troubles, Ps. 32.8 Prayer for guidance and direction in time of confusion, Numbers 23.23 Prayer to cancel the devices of Satan, 2 Sam. 15.31 Prayer in time of conspiracy. Prov.18.10- Power through His name, Isa. 43.2-Divine presence, the blood of the lamb Rev.12-11, His delegated authority over demons Luke 10.19.Deliverance from every curse Gal. 3.13. Remember, righteousness of life brings boldness in prayer. Christians in warfare must be ready to pray all forms of prayers – of praises, intercession, authority, power, and all form of prayers should be utilized to completely demolish the strong holds of the devil. The weapon of prayer is further enhanced with fasting. But we must ensure we have total faith in God for it is God the answers and not by power nor by might. (Mark 11.23, James 5.13-15).

COMPLETE VICTORY THROUGH PRAYER AND WATCHFULNESS  Gen.39.12, Daniel 1.8, 6:10, 2 Kings 6. 18-20, Esther 4.16, Acts 13.8-11, Acts 12.5

God always deliver His children from all the plots of the enemy as long as they utilize their armour appropriately at the right time. As Christ’s ambassadors, Christian soldiers are not supposed to rest on the battle field. Its only the watchful and fully armed soldier that will always conquer the opponent in battle. Sleeping soldiers may fail for the enemy may come while he was unaware. But once we are steadfast, disciplined and watchful in righteousness and holiness, our victory is sure in Jesus Name. Young Joseph was confronted with challenge of immorality, yet he used the helmet of salvation. He fled and had dominion over the flesh. Daniel also in Babylon through prayer and determination avoided the drunkenness and defilement in Babylon to become the well beloved ambassador of God. He had dominion over human satanic conspirators and even the lions. Esther, Mordecai and the Jews through prayer and fasting, overturned the plot of Haman to have dominion over death sentence (Esther 4.16). Elisha through faith in God’s presence and power prayed “God smite this people with blindness, and he captured the host (2 Kings 6.18), Paul the apostle brought judgment to Elymas with word of authority for perverting his convert (Acts 13.8-11). The early church united together in prayer and loose Peter from the chain of death (Acts 12.5), Paul and Silas through prayer of praise got delivered from the prison and from death (Acts 16.26). How about you today. What battles are confronting you, as you learnt about the Christian armour today, Rise up to the challenge and claim your victory.

THE CRY OF THE LOST

TRETS 13SEPT16             THE CRY OF THE LOST        Lk .15. 11-24, Lk. 16.23-31
The lost are the sinners in the world. They are like the prodigal son who strayed away from his father’s home. They are lost because they once belonged to the father (by creation) before they were deceived by Satan (through sin) and damned in the world. They are in the far country of famine; fetish practices and idol worship. Many of them are even in other places of worship but their hearts are too far from God. The lost are in several categories. While some are like the prodigal son who wept in time of adversity and returned to the father, others had been deluded with fame, wealth and power that they didn’t think of their latter end. They are lost spiritually as sinners in this world and if they are not reached before they die, they would be lost eternally in hell fire. The story of Lazarus and the rich man brings to us the depth of agony and lamentation of the lost soul. Though he lived sumptuously in this world, the rich man couldn’t remember any of his riches in eternity. The flames and the burning heat of hell was so devastating that he cried for a drop of cold water to cool his tongue but was denied. It was then he realized, Alas! It is finished! All hope is lost! All help is gone! Life is wasted and hell is a reality. He cried, but it was too late. What a loss! What a calamity and what regret that life would be no more. No second chance, no other opportunity, its weeping and crying forever. Believers are to rise up promptly to seek them before this final tragedy because failure to do so would amount to wasting the Saviours resources and becoming partakers of the sinner’s blood. Therefore, if the Christians of today will not be lost like the sinners, we all need to wake up from our slumber and consecrate ourselves to the commands of our Master reaching out to the lost sinners with the gospel message.

THE CONDITIONS OF THE SINNERS.    Rom.1. 28-30, Isa. 33.14, Ezek.34.5, Eph. 2.12, Luke 16.19, Jeremiah 8:20; Matt. 9:36; Luke 15:17; Proverbs 13:21, Rev. 20:11-15.
The sinful man is wretched and hopeless.  Although some of them are religious, yet they are restless having neither hope (hopeless) in this life nor in eternity. They live in fear day after day because once death comes; they know not what lies ahead of them. The sinners are always living under the wrath and damnation of the almighty God.  They are scattered and are prey to the enemy. They have no strength to overcome Satan who keeps them in perpetual captivity. Completely, they are separated from peace and safety. We need to pity them and have compassion on them. This compassion must lead us to lead them to the loving savior who is able to redeem them from their indignation and wretchedness. Unfortunately, they have limited time now, and Satan is targeting them to take them to hell. Will you allow him? Will you feel unconcerned; won’t you think of Christ’s suffering and death for them? Listen to their cry from hell for help, but it may be too late if you delay. If Jesus had saved us and redeemed us in His mercy and grace, we must have compassion on the sinners as well, and we must go and be deeply committed to bringing them back to the Lord.

OUR COMMITMENT TO SOUL WINNING
Mark 16:19, 20; John 4: 34; 9:4; Romans 1:14-16; Acts 20: 24; 21:13, 14; 26:19, 20;

The condition of the lost must lead us to be compassionate on them. Our compassion must further bring out commitment from our heart and life to rescue the perishing sinners. Soul-winning is a product of strong consecration and commitment. The word of Christ, “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15) deserves every believer’s attention. Preaching the gospel and winning souls for Christ should not be stopped by some would be event. Paul the apostle affirmed his commitment by saying “But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God”. (Acts 20:24). The soul-winner should be: (1) Undeterred by some prevailing responses -Acts 13:46 (2) Unsatisfied by the present result- “…there is room” (Luke 14:22,23) (3) Unveiling places and people ready for repentance (John 4:35)

It is also important to understand that the mandate is one that must be done constantly, “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season…” (II Timothy 4:2). And continuously because- (i) The time is running out (John 9:4); (ii) The fields are ripe for harvest (John 4:34-35; Joel 3:14); (iii) The repentance of a sinner causes Joy in Heaven (Luke 15:10); (iv) The time of the Lord’s coming is unknown to man“…for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come” (Matthew 24:42); (v) The unfathomable torment awaiting sinners in Hell (Matthew 25: 30, 46). Remember Christ our perfect example during his earthly ministry was always busy with this divine mandate of soul-winning (John 4:34), hence, believers must emulate this example and ensure faithfulness to this indispensable mandate

COMMENDATION FROM THE SAVIOUR
Luke 10:1, 2, 17-19; Psalm 126:5, 6; John 4:35, 36; 1 Corinthians 3:6-8; 1Timothy 5:18

"In all labour there is profit!" (Proverbs 14:23). However, the reward for faithful laborers in the harvest of souls is incomparable with any earthly reward or material gain. It is an eternal investment that yields great dividends in spite of famine or flood. Whatever you invest in the saving of souls will be returned to you a hundredfold. "And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever” (Daniel 12:3).

Soul-winning is indeed rewarding on earth and eternally with a glorious, worthy and impressive crown, “…for the labourer is worthy of his hire” (Luke 10:7). There is no expenditure too expensive, no demand too difficult, no commitment too costly and no labour too large and no sacrifice too superfluous.  Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing” (2 Timothy 4:8). Moreover, the sight of won souls in that great gathering of the saints on the final day will be awesome (Revelation 7:9-17).  Our Lord’s final commendation “well done” will be a comforting pearl for all soul winners. Our Savour and Lord Jesus Christ will gloriously crown the soul winner and he will among others: (1) Wear a glorious crown – I Peter 5:4; Daniel 12:3 (2) Win a great commendation - Matthew 25:21,23 (3) Walk on the street of gold - Revelation -21:21.

TRUE FREEDOM IN CHRIST

TRUE FREEDOM IN CHRIST John 8. 30-36                                   06Oct2016
Freedom had been described as the state of being at liberty to act, move, speak or perform without any restraint or hindrance. True freedom therefore is the ability to enjoy liberty physically, emotionally, spiritually and financially. True freedom is always desired by everyone. Man was created in freedom and was given liberty to enjoy all the amenities of Eden until Satan lured him into bondage and stole the freedom away (Jn. 10.10).  Since then, man through this enticement was sold into bondage of sin, sickness and satanic affliction. Many people today are still in this bondage though they have tried several ways to regain freedom. Unfortunately, many do not even know they are under any bondage. They are ignorant of their partial or complete bondage to Satan and his agents. This was the problem of the Jewish leaders as expressed in their dialogue with the Savior. True freedom can only be obtained in Christ Jesus. It’s the complete removal of all the root of bondage with its power and penalties, and permanent liberation into original dominion proclaimed by the Almighty God.
Description of the Dilemma and Trauma of Bondage. Rom. 7. 14-20, John 8.34, Jer. 50.33,
Bondage and captivity (or yokes) always have related characteristics. Their subjects and victims are always groaning in pain and suffering against their personal wish. The cry of such victims had always been like the text “who shall deliver me…” There is always an oppressor (visible or invisible) who exerts evil tyranny and dominion over them. These oppressor(s) never wanted their servants to be free, therefore they always make life miserable to them. Israel suffered greatly in Egypt, and later under the Assyrians and Babylonians for reasons they knew not. The following are some of the characteristics of bondage and captivity in a person’s life: (1) Every sinner is under the bondage of Satan. (ii) Repeated backsliding even at the expense of shame and reproach. (iii) When a person suddenly discovered retrogressions (backwardness) and stagnancy on steps that usually bring progress, (iv) when there is repeated severe labour with meager or no reward, (v) when there is regular disappointments, disasters and death either of life, business, marriage and family, (vi) when you observe a form of sickness or disease that seems to have defied medications in spite of all your resources. (vii) When there is an unexpected hindrance (e.g accident, or even satanic hold ups which always cause delay in an achievement of a seemingly easy task making its success a mirage. All these are indications of bondage in someone’s life.
Sin and ignorance are the main causes of bondage. While some enter into bondage through negative decisions taken ignorantly, some others sell their birthrights of liberty through covetousness (e.g get-rich quick), immoral friendship and relationship, solution seeking through illicit means and messengers (e.g occults) etc. These are lawful captives who sold themselves into bondage. This is very common today among our youth
Declarations of Deliverance and Total Freedom. John 8.32, 36; John 10.10, Isa. 49.24-26, Isa 10.27, 14.25, Jeremiah 40.4, Luke 4.18
The divine declaration is sure and certain “if the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free in deed”. Jesus did not just want to set us free, but to make us free. Many are looking for people to set them free. But they soon realize they enter into another bondage. But True freedom comes when Christ makes the captive (sinner) free. He is completely free from both the internal and external bondage. Christ knew and had purchased the requirements of our freedom. The process of liberty if two fold. Its either through over-powering the oppressor and setting its captives free (Luke 11.21-22), or appeasing the oppressor making a compromise for the captive’s release. For our own freedom, Christ fulfilled all these laws. (i) By overpowering the Devil on the cross declaring “it is finished” and secondly appeasing the Almighty God through His sacrificial death (Col 2. 13-15) and by so, He only can make anyone completely free. In His declaration, He has come to give life abundantly. His freedom is Total and complete in that He gives liberation to the complete man: soul, spitrit and body. Life is freedom from death, freedom from suffering, freedom from Satanic afflictions and freedom from all sicknesses.
Determination and Steps for True Freedom.  Matt. 11.28, Acts 19.19, 2 Cor 6. 17, James 4.4, Gal. 5.1, Ps 91.1
There is need for strong determination and desire for freedom in the heart of the captive. He must also take definite steps that will not only get him out but that will keep him permanently.
(i)Repent from all your sins and trespasses. Acts 17.30, (ii) Receive Christ as your Lord and Saviour, (iii) Resolve to live in Righteousness and never to be defiled any more (Dan. 1.8). (iv) Reject all the works of the devil, (v) Renounce all secret societies and associations (2Cor.6.17), (vi) Receive God’s promises by faith (Heb 10.23), Remain under God’s protection, presence and power (Zech 2.5, Ps 91.1)

Effective fervent prayer is essential for deliverance and dominion from the hands of the devil claiming God’s promises all the way.

366 DAYS OF VICTORY

366 DAYS OF VICTORY
Joshua 1.5, 6, Luke 1.74-75, John 10.10,

The provision of the Lord for all His children in all generations is complete and consistent victory throughout the days of their lives. To have victory for 366 days simply connote one leap year of victory without defeat, success without failure, triumph without being subdued, conquest and deliverance without any oppression. However, God’s promise of victory is total without any exception. It includes victory over sin, self, sensuality, evil spirits and over Satan. Daily spiritual victory translates into the fulfillment of all God’s promises concerning our physical, financial and material needs. Jesus declared in the New Testament “I am come that they might have life, and have it more abundantly” (John 10.10). This entails all that is needed for a fulfilled and accomplished life. Consistency in daily victory results into a complete year of total victory

Pitfalls and battles against Christian’s daily Victory 2 Cor. 10.3-5, 1 Peter 5.8,
Understanding the main target in warfare gives the believer a good focus on the enemy and helps him to deploy the appropriate weapons that are needed for victory. Joshua in his time fought the Canaanites physically, but we are fighting a different warfare today. Our warfare today is more of spiritual than physical and therefore what we need to conquer differs. Our arch enemy is Satan who comes to steal and to kill and to destroy (John 10.10). However, we must strongly resist his devices which includes -  Sin (Rom 7.14, 19-24), Self will and self management  (1 Sam 15.23), fleshly lust (1 Peter 2.11),   Greed and get rich quick (1 Tim 6.9), Pride (Prov 16.18), worldliness (1 John 2.15-17), Hypocrisy and double standard life (Titus 1.16), Immoral thoughts and lifestyle, Prayerlessness and unbelief.
All these (and many more) are the tools in Devils hands and had made many people to fall. Saul, Israel’s first king was conquered, Gehazi the servant of Elisha became leprous, Achan died suddenly without repentance, Samson lost his ministry and his life abruptly, and many more like that. We must therefore look critically into our lives and be sure none of those satanic vices are seen in us so as to constantly overcome the enemy and win in the battles.

Perceptions and provisions for our daily Victory. John 19.30, 1 John 4.4, Joshua 1.5, Deut 28.13, Deut 31.6,  Isaiah 35.4, 1 John 4.4.
Although God had made many provisions for our daily victory which we only need to hook up to, ye believers have responsibilities to take. The first step to daily victory is to be born again. This new birth experience launches one into the realm of victors to enjoy all that God had provided at Calvary. Christ died for our victory but this can only be enjoyed when an individual recognize him as Lord and Saviour.  After this, he needs to follow these steps to victory:
VIRTUOS LIFESTYLE – Let your life be a demonstration of the virtues of Christ. (1 Pet 2.21, 2 Pet. 1. 5-8)
INTERNALISE HIS WORDS – Memorise and practice the written word (Joshua 1.8, Col,3.16)
CONSECRATED TO THE LORD – Consecrate your heart, time and talent to God (Rom. 12. 1-2)
TRUST IN GOD IN ALL THINGS -  Have faith in God and His promises (Mark 11. 22-24)
OCCUPY IN HIS BUSINESS -   Ensure you always preach the Word  (Luke 19.13)
READINESS FOR HIS RETURN -Be watchful in always, preparing for the trumpet sound (Matt. 24. 42-44)
YIELD NOT TO TEMPTATION  - Beware of tempters and their schemes (1 Cor. 10.12)

However, having played your part as a believer, God will back you up by His grace and make His promises fulfilled in your life. These promises include – Daily protection from all evil plans of the wicked (Ps. 37.40), Regular Answer to your prayers (John 14.13), Divine providence (Isa 25.4), Divine Support in Troubles (2 Tim. 4.18), Divine partnership in battle (1John 4.4)

Praying through to complete victory.  Luke 18.1, Matt. 26.41, Mark 3.27, 2 Cor. 10. 3-5, Gen. 32.24-26, 1 Chro. 4.9-10

Victory in every areas of life requires constant prayer and supplication to the Lord. Christ told his disciples that “men ought always to pray and not to faint”. And as He went the Gethsemane, He charged them to”… watch and pray..” This therefore tells all believers then and now that no meaningful achievement or progress could be made without prayer. Our prayers should be to dethrone Satan who wants to rule over us (Matt. 16.23), and lift up Christ in our victories. We must be ready to bind the strongman through fervent prayer and to liberate all his captives to liberty.  Then begin to claim God’s promises for your life and for your family. Remember, fervent regular prayer is the only way to supernatural victory throughout the 366 days of the year.

WE DO NOT WELL

WE DO NOT WELL                               2 KINGS 7. 3-11, 1 Kings 20. 39-40.

The story of these four lepers had been strategically kept in scriptures for us believers today to awaken us from our state of lethargy and indifference toward the dying souls. Though they were separated out of the city (by law) due to their predicaments, yet they became highly privileged to encounter the supernatural abundance of the Lord at the gate of Samaria in the midst of severe scarcity of the city.  Though they, like every other person, satisfied their personal need, yet they realized the need of others and the danger of negligent and time wasting. Believers today have more to learn from these despised lepers. God had brought salvation to mankind freely in spite of the grave danger and penalty of sin yet many are still suffering from the ignorance of the age. As believers, we do not well to keep relaxed while they keep dying in their sins and we are comfortable in the church. Many souls are still yet unreached while we are enjoying, choosing and selecting sermons and messages, We do not well!. If we tarry any longer, mischief will surely come because to him that knows how to do good but does it not, it is sin.. We do not well. Now we have the bread of life, now we have the good tidings of the Lord Jesus, if our neighbors and relatives still die ignorantly unreached, what excuse do we have, We do not well. Their precious souls shall be required at our hand. The church needs to wake up from our slumber and realize the urgency of our task. And the value of their souls couple with the perils and danger of delay. They could die and go to hell, Satan and his agents could continue to devour them at will, Jesus is crying and pleading each day to you and me to reach and preach to them. He is saying will my sacrifice be in vain. “Souls are dying, men are crying but you are playing; won’t you lead them to the cross? Go and find them, please help to win them. Win the lost at any cost.“ But if you tarry longer mischief is imminent, for Woe to Him that is at ease in Zion! (Amos 6.1). We had allowed many unnecessary issues to hinder us from the most essential task of soul-seeking, soul-winning and soul-saving: WE DO NOT WELL!. Repentance from idleness, Renewal of our consecration to the Lord and concentration on Evangelism must be our focus Now before its too late.

The Calamity and Perplexity of the Lost2 Kings 6. 24-30, Amos 8.11, 2 Cor. 4.4, Eccl. 10.15, Rom 1. 21-22, Matt. 23.33, Jere. 14.14, Eph. 2.12, Job 7. 2-6.
The story in our text is very pathetic. The famine in Samaria was so severe that the people began to eat their children (2 Kings 6. 28-29). Their condition became so terrible that from the king to the least person were perplexed and helpless. The king had no other person to think for solution but Elisha the man of God. The Lord had said concerning this age that there will be famine of hearing of the word (Amos 8. 11). Our generation is that of spiritual and emotional famine. The people are (i) spiritually blind in their rat race of get rich quick. The more they toil, the more they suffer (2 Cor. 4.4, Eccl. 10.15), (ii) their hearts are darkened and filled with illusion and are foolish in understanding of God’s knowledge (Rom 1. 21-22), (iii) They are to face the damnation of hell fire (Matt. 23.33), (iv) Unfortunately more for them, many false prophets and false teachers are making merchandise of them telling them deceptive alternatives that doesn’t save (Jere. 14.14). (v) They spend their lives without peace, without hope and without God, therefore they are exposed to spiritual and physical danger, destruction, destitution and vanity (Eph. 2.12, Job 7. 2-6).

Compassionate Provision of the Lord2 Kings 7. 5-9, Luke 2. 10-11, Rom. 5.6-9, John 8. 32, 36; John 15.13, John 14.1,27; 2 Peter 1. 3-4
Thanks be to God! Who had not left us without care. In the midst of the scarcity and famine, Elisha, the man of God, prophesied abundance and plenty. This was fulfilled within twenty four hours and these four lepers were privileged to encounter this good news. They had stumbled into an absolute abundance and overflowing blessing, but they knew that they could never keep such a thing to themselves alone except they share the news. The same still apply to us today; as we see multitude around us that needs to be reached with the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. God, in His compassion had made provision for the sin of the world. He wants all to believe in Christ and be saved (John 3.16). This salvation is given absolutely free for all men and its readily available anytime and anywhere (Isa 55.1, Matt. 22.4). However, embedded in this provision are all the other benefits like protection from evil, deliverance from afflictions, freedom from disasters, healing from all sicknesses, provision for all needs, satisfaction in time of sufficiency, guidance and direction in times of confusion and peace in time of trouble (John 14.1,27; 2 Peter 1. 3-4).
Therefore, having provided an escape route from the disaster that looms ahead, God calls every one to embrace the love and the gift, and be genuinely saved from sin and be sure he is free from spiritual poverty (like the lepers). Then remember those multitude of helpless people who are still weary of their sin and don’t know the way (John 1. 40-42a).

Compelling reasons for urgent proclamation of the gospel. 2 Kings 7.9, John 4. 34-38, John 20.21, 1 Cor. 9.16, 1 Cor. 7.29, 2 Tim. 4. 1-4, Dan. 12.3
The lepers resolution was “we do not well”, we must proclaim this or else delay will surely bring mischief on us. This is passionate enough because of their knowledge of the famine in the land. Indeed, the perplexity of the people around us should move us to preach to them. The souls that are perishing should motivate us to reach them. The sacrificial investments of the Lord should compel us to proclaim the good news otherwise untold punishment awaits us. (i) Christ commands us to preach to them ( Mk 16.15, John 20.21). (ii) The danger and penalty of our disobedience must constrain us to preach to them (1 Cor. 9.16). (iii) The shortness of time warrants that we leave everything else and evangelize now (1 Cor. 7.29), the possibility of wastage of the souls through harness of heart by Satan must make us start now (2 Tim. 4. 1-4), (v) the certainty of death and judgment of hell for sinners must make us preach (Heb 9.27). (vi) The Assurance of success and immense blessings for soul winners must motivate us to preach (John 4. 34-36). (vii) The presence of the Lord now and in eternity should joyfully attract us to winning souls (Dan 12.3). Knowing these compelling factors, let us wake up, and use all methods available to proclaim Christ, publish the revival program, evangelize and harvest them to the fold. It’s a rewarding exercise else He will tell us.. “We do not well”

SOULS ARE DYING, MEN ARE CRYING!

As we look all around us,
All the fields are white,
They're ripened unto harvest,
Yet so quickly comes the night.
Christians must get busy,
There's so much work to do.
Here's an urgent task awaiting you.

Souls are crying, men are dying,
Won't you lead them to the cross.
Go and find them, Please help to win them
Win the lost at any cost.

Check your fold, my christian brother,
See if all your children are in.
Are there some still straying in the
Blackened fields of sin.
You must go out and win them,
Go quickly without delay,
Soon the trump of God shall end the day.

Go out and win, rescue from sin,
Day's almost done, and the battle's almost won.
Souls are crying, men are dying,
Win the lost at any cost

STUDYING THE WORD FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH AND SUSTENANCE.

                                        Text:  1 Peter 2. 2, 2Tim. 2.15

Desiring milk among children is a characteristic of their growing process. This they do till they reach the age of stability and are able to feed themselves through strong food. The same applies in the spiritual realm. Every believer, whether young or adult, must desire the milk of God’s word to grow up to sustenance, stability and full spiritual independence. Studying the Word is the age long process of reading the scriptures, meditating upon it and applying it to our daily life. This is as compulsory for a believer as his daily meal because though the physical food sustains the body, the Word of God keeps and stabilizes the soul and the spiritual body. Therefore, failure to remain consistent through in the study of the scriptures is a sign of spiritual laziness and lethargy, and may lead to compromise and backsliding. Commitment to regular study of God’s Word makes us strong and healthy spiritually. It also keeps us stable in the midst of destructive winds of doctrines around the world today.
Perils and Spiritual Sterility through ignorance of God’s Words. Hosea 4.6, Mark. 4. 14-19,
Every Christian is commanded to love God’s word and study it for growth and sustenance. Failure to do so makes us ignorant of God’s promises and purpose for our lives and brings destruction, spiritual famine and damnation. A believer who is void of the Holy Scriptures won’t know how to overcome temptation and to escape the snares of the devil (Eccl. 9.12). Stagnant believers always become carnal, worldly and compromising and will eventually backslide and die spiritually. This however breeds a weak church where canal comparison, envy and jealousy, murmuring and backbiting become apparent. Purity of heart and life, commitment and consecration, evangelism and soul-winning, and other spiritual accomplishments, will become forgotten as selfishness and worldly traits take over the congregation.
Principles of Systematic Study of God’s Word. Ezek. 2. 8-9, 3:1, Rev. 10.9, 1 Peter 1.23,
God had always commanded His children at all levels and in all ages to be diligent in reading and studying His words. It is an imperative command that we should study to know the instruction of the Lord and to carry them out promptly. However, to do this effectively requires systematic approach in our study. The following principle will help every believer to grow spiritually through the word.
Preparation:
i.                 Know the author of the scriptures. Without salvation experience, the Bible remains a closed book to anyone. Knowing God at new birth brings the Holy Spirit into the heart and life of an individual. It convicts of sins, and causes the sinner to take decisions to please the Lord as master. Note that the Holy Spirit now resides within the new born Christian to interpret God’s word to Him (John 15.3; John 6.63, 1 Pet. 1.23). As a child of God, now you can have access to the treasury of the Almighty.
ii.                  Have a good motive as you approach God for clarity of His word. Your main goal must be to know God more, and get more intimate fellowship with Him. Therefore be prepared to acquire as much from Him as possible (Phil 3.10). You need a longing heart that pant after God’s word (Ps. 42.1-2).
iii.                Believe that every word you read from the Bible is from God and is for your learning, instruction, admonition and correction. Also note that it contains promises you need to claim, and pitfalls you need to avoid that it may be well with you (2 Tim 3.16-17, Rom. 15.4).
iv.                 Ensure you have a solitary, quiet place where you can study and meet with your God. Remember, it is a place where God speaks to you through His word. Be ready to listen to all He says and be prepared to carry it everything He speaks out (Exo. 24.2,12, 15).
v.                   Be submissive to the Holy Spirit as your teacher and instructor. Your attitude must be “Speak Lord, thy servant heareth” (1 Sam. 3.9)
Practice:
i.                    You must practically get your study materials ready before your study time which includes a Study Bible with concordance and dictionaries, Devotional materials, Bible Atlas and maps, Encyclopedia of Bible Topics (1 Cor. 14. 7-9). These materials will further explain details of the scriptural passages and their backgrounds.
ii.                  Get also, writing materials to jot down what the Lord speaks to you.
iii.           Chose the pattern of study you which to follow. You can either study the bible by books (Book Study), By Bible character (Character Study), or by Bible doctrines (Doctrinal study). Whichever one you choose will give you the same inspiration through the Holy Spirit.
iv.                 Be systematic in your study to follow the chronological order of the chapters. Note that jumping chapters will make you miss so salient points of the scriptures that are equally beneficial to you.
v.                   Make a commitment to the Lord to be consistent and prompt at your personal altar. Consecrate your time to it and be sure you don’t miss the set time.
Prayer and faith: James 1. 5-6, Mark 11.24, 1 Tim. 2.8
You need time to pray before and after your study. Since you are carrying out a spiritual exercise, Satan may bring distractions, disaffections and discouragement to hinder the study but with prayer, you will overcome them. You also need to manifest faith in God to receive your entire heart request concerning your desired growth. Note that God knows your desire and is ready to meet them particularly as it is to His glory. Pray that God will give you grace to heed all the warnings and avoid all the pitfalls that the character fell into. Take time to claim the promises and ask for grace to manifest God’s glory as stated the passage read.
Profits and Success through regular Study of God’s words. Joshua 1. 8, Ps. 1.1-3, Psalm 119. 1-12, Prov. 4.18
Regular study of God’s words makes us a strong believer that is growing daily from one level of perfection to another. It brings supernatural spiritual growth and secular promotion and success. Few of the profits of heart-warming study of God’s words include but not limited to:
